Still haven't uploaded

I still haven't uploaded my photos from the weekend so here are some more photos from before. This is a town in Mexico called Taxco, which is a popular tourist destination and known for it's silver mines. The rest of my photos are in flickr.




I was there with my brother and sister-in-law as well as Siri Dyal Kaur Ji. Here, we were in one of the many shops selling silver products. This one also had a fake mine built into the back of it.


Here I am standing in one of the many cobblestone streets found in Taxco. The whole town is built into a hill and some of the roads are extremely steep. I don't think they have to worry about snow or ice though, considering this picture was taken in January, and it was warm :-)

I had a great Memorial day weekend, and enjoyed a really fun hike and picnic on Monday. I haven't uploaded the pictures yet though, but I still have old pictures in my Flickr account which I haven't yet organized. Here are some pictures from when I was in a small town in Mexico in January.

These are some pictures I took when I was in Denver for work about a month ago.

Ever present needle

This is on the road in front of my house looking towards my neighbor's house. Do you see something in the road?

Here's a close-up. When heroine junkies need a fix, they'll get it from the dealer and stick it in their arm (or where ever) almost immediately and then throw the needle out the window on the way home.

This problem is so ubiquitous in this area. There was recently an article in the New York Times about this problem. The S.E.V.A. group that my friends and I started have been involved with various local programs and events to raise awareness and to help people suffering from this problem.

A couple pictures from ABQ

There is a small sangat in Albuquerque and they just had the three year anniversary of having a Gurdwara. I went down with Gurujot Singh Ji, Siri Chand Singh Ji, and Hari Bhajan Kaur Ji. People were surprised to know that all three of us guys are twins. It was my second time at the Gurdwara in a month. Earlier we went to their Baisakhi celebration. Here are a couple pictures from that.

It was snowing a few minutes ago :-)

Mostly it was raining, but at this elevation it snowed for about 15 minutes. People wonder how we get good cold showers year round... it's because it gets cold/cool at night the whole year.

Ultimate Frisbee

As many are aware, we play ultimate Frisbee after Gurdwara every Sunday in Española. A few weeks back I went with Gurujot Singh Ji and Gurprakash Singh Ji to Albuquerque to do kirtan at their Baisakhi celebration. By the time we got back to Española people had been playing Ultimate for about an hour, so we went straight to the field. We were all three wearing blue cholas. I took mine off and played in kacheras and a t-shirt, they both played with their cholas (tyar bar tyar for reals :-)

Oh yeah and I was wearing juttis so I played barefoot also.
It was a game on the short field so the intensity wasn't too high, otherwise I think it may be difficult to run full speed down the field in a chola and dumalla.

Freedom

What can be said of love?
It is my hand, and illusion the glove.
I took off the glove, and I can see,

respect and serve that, and you will be free.

Once upon a time...

Probably 8 or 9 years ago, I took drawing in college. I had never really drawn before or since, but I gave it a shot then. The teacher actually wasn't that great and I remember her grading on our ability, which I thought was unfair since I'd never drawn before and she didn't teach me anything. I remember it took me forever if I wanted to draw something nice. Here are some of my 'works.'


I couldn't explain this, so don't bother asking. I imagine it started as one thing and then evolved into something else. Also, I imagine I probably drew it quickly. Still I thought it was interesting enough to put here.

I remember charcoal was difficult to draw with. Nothing was really very precise with it. Here is an example.

For our final exam, we had to do 3 drawings on a similar theme. I figured since I was studying computer science that I would draw computers. I remember these computers being pretty state of the art back then...

I'm thinking Mountains....

The weather is getting warmer and I'm thinking mountains. I really need to make a trip...

I have a bunch of photos uploaded to Flickr which I haven't sorted, going back to Last fall. I went through one set today that I thought the sangat might enjoy. I shared a few pictures in the fall. The rest are now available at my flickr account.

Somebody was celebrating peace at the top of the mountain.



It's called 4th of July Canyon. I can only assume it's because all the colors in the fall look like the fireworks on the 4th of July. This picture looks like colorful fireworks going into the air and exploding.

There was a fair amount of purple last year. Check the other photos to see more.
