Indian scenes

Hanging out on roof tops in Zirakpur
Random street scene in Zirakpur.
New Gurdwara being built in Zirakpur.
This looked like a sea of mirrors to me. This was at the bus station as we were leaving Chandigarh for Anandpur Sahib.

Hari Mandir Sahib at night

Well I've put a few pictures up of the Hari Mandir Sahib in the Amrit Vela, but no pictures at night yet. Somehow it looks different at the different times. Maybe it is the moon.
Capturing the moon and the nishan sahib from the top of the Hari Mandir Sahib.
Just before getting prashad.

Well I'll get more pictures from Balwinder's wedding later. For now I'll give you the most recent stuff. I'm feeling better. I was totally laid out the day I wrote the post where I said I was sick. I was pretty much laid out the next day. The third day I was feeling a lot better and we went to Anandpur Sahib (pictures forthcoming). There was a discussion about water. If you want real rural water from the ground come to New Mexico. In India a lot of the ground water has been tainted by grey water and brown water. You can see it all over the place grey water flows in all the ditches of the cities and towns and it ends up going into the ground. A lot of sewage is untreated and a lot of bad water goes straight into the ground. I love a lot of India, but the pollution of the air and water (mostly the air) is really bad and harmful to everybody's health. When I blow my nose, the tissue is partly black from the air I've been breathing in. If I cough and then spit, it's also black sometimes.
I'm feeling pretty good now. I have a lot of pictures and stories. I'll put a lot more when I get back. I'll keep trying to update while I'm here as well.
Doing parkarma seva this very morning at around 3:00 AM.
A picture of the entry way to the Hari Mandir Sahib from the third floor, with the Akal Takht in the background.
A picture from this afternoon.
This is where I'm sitting right now, with these two dudes. This is Manpreet Singh on the right who runs the internet shop, if you go to the Hari Mandir Sahib his shop is real nearby.
The 10 rupee potato chat burger, this is what I was eating when I went into the shop. I'm back at it again, I was eating street food again the day after I was sick. I got so sick because I had a little bit of a cold, which weakened my immune system and my stomach of steel was a little weaker. I was really sick, throwing up, my whole body hurting and other bad things as well, but I took pills which helped with that. Then my stomach came back to full strength.

P.S. Guess who I met today? finally. I met Vicky Singh, have you seen his blog? We kept missing each other, but this morning I went back to the taksali store again and guess who was there? This was literally 5 minutes after meeting a couple on the streets from EspaƱola that arrived yesterday. This morning at the seva I met several people from EspaƱola, including Simran Singh from the Wheeler Peak pictures. I keep meeting people here that I know. It's nice to be here and on vacation. When I get back, it is all work :-)

Balwinder at the front of a procession to the nearby Gurdwara where they took a hukam to start the day.
Balwinder looking good.
If you click on this picture you'll see Balwinder in classic mode - on the cell phone. This was after the hukam on the way to the event hall where there was a breakfast before the wedding.

A band that was leading the procession to the event hall and then to the front of the Gurdwara, they played bagpipes and drums and marched. It was quite a big occasion.

Balwinder's uncle's house. This house is right next to his Dad's house and it is where we stayed.
Balwinder's parents house.
Taking pictures the morning of the wedding. This is Balwinder with his parents and mini-me, his nephew.
This kid is cool and the other one is cute.
Me and Balwinder. You can get nice clothes in India huh? search for maharaja suiting on the internet if you want to know where. I got a new damalla and a new khanda to put in it, you can see it if you click on the picture.

More of Balwinder's wedding

Another shot for good measure.
Dancing at the ladies sangeet. You know there are good Bhangra dancers in Punjab! :-)
Ladies... sangeet.
Carrying something which Gurinder at the internet shop tells me is called the jaggo.

The ladies went on a procession singing and carrying this thing.

Balwinder's super cute niece Harleen Kaur and her older brother Sukhanjot Singh.
The night before the wedding was the ladies' sangeet, which is now like a party for everybody. This is a picture of that event.
Balwinder and his cousins. They were holding this cloth above his head but I don't know why. Then they put it on his head and everybody was feeding him laddu.

Holy cow.

Well eating and drinking everything I came across finally caught up to me. I'm now sick. It took a week of drinking whatever water was offered to me and eating whatever food I was around. Though in the winter time my immune system has a hard time any way. I can't sleep with a quilt over my body and head, so I just sleep with it over my body and I forget about my head so my body stays warm and my head stays cold. This is what happened to me this time. My stomach of steel was a little weaker because my immune system was weaker. And the germs attacked. Anyway, it was just today that I've been sick so I still have a lot of nice pictures and I'm still going to get more pictures.
This was my view when walking to the nivas (where I was staying) from town. The nivas where we were staying.
The Baba Atal tower where I took the above photo and others.
Bhai Joginder Singh Riar and jetha playing at the Bhog for the sehaj path before Balwinder's wedding. After the Gurdwara we got to talk with him (through Balwinder) and he gave us some vcd's of his kirtan. I thought that was nice.
